Welcome to Gosung Monastery website.

Gosung Monastery is a Zen(Chan/Seon) meditation center 

and a retreat place for everyone who seeks peace and happiness 

in spiritual community as well as in one’s mind.

Gosung was founded by the Venerable Jinwol Dowon (Dr. Lee), 

a Korean Bhikkhu (Buddhist mendicant monk) and Seon (meditation) Master, 

to transmit Dharma and spread Buddhism in United States in 2016. 

Gosung literally means in Korean as an ancient castle but indicates spiritual 

relations with Ven. Goam (former Supreme Patriarch of Jogye Order of 

Korean Buddhism) and Ven. Yongsung (Ven. Goam’s Master), 

who were the Ven. Jinwol’s Dharma Master and Grand Master. 

As a meditative retreat center, Gosung Monastery is  located on a mountain top 

(about 2,500 feet above sea level) in Livermore, and functioning as a Non-Profit 

Organization which has been registered on State of California for a religious 

corporation.

Web-master hopes that everyone could contribute to and take a part in 

this site through sharing one’s idea and experience as a community member.
